Feel free to communicate concerns about your investment in our building, but please be civil.

I’m sure some board members will not be happy I am letting unit owners know about facts they would like to keep hidden.

Current board members are welcome to correct anything posted here they think is not accurate, same as any other unit owner.

I set up this website to make unit owners aware of the money Lori Dillon spent from our treasury without getting approval from the board. Both of the lawyers I had to hire to protect me and my family from her threats to evict us from our home, that she financed from the building treasury, without board approval, told me the same thing: that is illegal. It is called embezzling.

The law doesn’t say it is okay to do that if you have good intentions. It states two board members must approve checks being written out of our treasury.

What needs to happen is for the building Treasurer to provide a full and accurate accounting of the checks she wrote without board approval.

There is a reason she and her husband have been coveting that board position. We found out this year exactly how desperate she is to cling on to that position.

Paying Attention

I am no longer surprised by people not paying attention to what is going on with their investment in the building. I liked serving on boards with reasonable people who increased the value of our investment. I didn’t like serving on boards with people who did not have the best interests of the building at heart.

Everyone wants to believe things are going great and all they need to do is show up once a year, ask a few questions, and congratulate the board on the wonderful job they are doing.

This year we found out we are still $320,000 in debt, spent $90,000 more than we brought in, and Marty’s board can’t figure out how to deal with the potential liability we all have because Dino uses his daughters, wife, and mother to do his job. At least in our building. I don’t know if he uses them in the other jobs he works.

Our Annual Meeting

We’ve had some ugly annual meetings in the past. I thought all the angry shouters had moved out or moved on. I never understood why Marty allowed that to happen year after year. The board president is responsible for keeping order and providing a forum for unit owners to have a civil discussion about their investments. Anyone unable to behave themselves can be escorted out of the meeting until they cool down while the adults discuss their concerns.

We found out this year he is now our shouter-in-chief. That is something people who have things to hide do. Maybe he will apologize for his performance and let unit owners know they can voice their concerns without fear he will try to menace them for stating facts.

Or maybe Marty cut me off for a reason. He knew what I was going to say next. I raised this with his board after the lawsuit I filed was settled, based on the advice of my lawyers.

My main concern with my investment in our building is the checks signed by Lori in violation of the by-laws. Both of the lawyers I had to hire to protect me and my wife from her legal threats, that she used the building treasury to fund, told me the same thing: she is liable to pay back to unit owners every check she authorized that was not approved at a board meeting. As my fellow board member, Peter Horowitz at the time said, “Lori thinks she owns the building.” I saw first-hand how she caused financial damage to our investments while serving on boards with her and Peter.

The building Treasurer is required to keep full and accurate financial records. That has not been happening in our building. It is time to provide unit owners with a record of the money that has been spent from our treasury that was not documented in meeting minutes. If it was just $10,000 then Lori can get off with a slap on the wrist. If it was $100,000, or more, unit owners should get a report on exactly how much was illegally spent.

There is a reason Lori has been running year after year. Who is the board treasurer this year? Desperate people do desperate things. Thank goodness we live in a country governed by the rule of law where people who think they are above the law can be held accountable.
